Donald Crandlemire

Biography

Donald Crandlemire comes to Shaheen & Gordon with more than 15 years of experience in complex business and healthcare matters.

Don began the practice of law in 1993. From 1993 to 2003, Don focused his practice on business law and litigation.

In 2003, Don accepted an opportunity to become Senior Vice President and General Counsel to the Elliot Health System in Manchester, New Hampshire. In this capacity, Don served as the chief legal officer of one of New Hampshire’s largest healthcare institutions and tax exempt organizations and counseled the board of directors, senior management, and medical staff leadership on a myriad of legal and regulatory issues including:

  • regulatory matters
  • litigation
  • professional and general liability and risk management
  • governance
  • corporate compliance including issues relating to Stark, Anti-Kickback, EMTALA, HIPAA and the laws governing tax exempt organizations
  • medical Staff Affairs and Physician Credentialing
  • internal investigations
  • governmental investigations
  • healthcare transactions and contracting
  • certificate of need

In late 2008, Don returned to the private practice of law and now offers his unique blend of business and healthcare experience to Shaheen & Gordon clients. In addition to assisting clients with specific legal problems or tasks, Don also serves as general counsel to businesses and organizations. As general counsel, Don serves as a part of an organization’s management team to proactively manage and/or avoid legal risks on a systematic basis.

In addition to his legal experience and training, Don in 2008 received his Masters in Business Administration through the Executive MBA program at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. In this program, Don received intense training in all matters of business management including finance, strategy and operations alongside executives from top companies across the United States.

Don also has a passion for helping organizations reduce their healthcare expense through innovative contracting strategies and the development of effective employee health and wellness programs.

Representative Legal Cases

  • On behalf of a building supply company, successfully sued contractor and real estate developer under the New Hampshire Consumer Protection Act, winning affirmation in the State Supreme Court, in a complex construction litigation involving multiple parties and entities, recovering all of client’s damages, attorneys fees and costs. (See, Milford Lumber Company, Inc. v. RCB Realty et al, 147 NH 15).
  • On behalf of landowner who had been assessed a property tax by a municipality on account of a communications tower, obtained declaration that the tower was not taxable under NH law, winning affirmation in the State Supreme Court (See, Town of Ossipee v. Whittier Lifts Trust, et al, 149 NH 679.)
  • On behalf of a business owner, successfully obtained injunctive relief and damages on account of employee’s violation of non-compete agreement in employment contract.
  • On behalf of healthcare organization, structured sale-leaseback transaction of large ambulatory care complex and then successfully petitioned New Hampshire’s Certificate of Need Board for approval; case was eventually upheld on appeal by the State Supreme Court.
