Jared O'Connor Named Granite State Advocate Award Winner

Veteran Attorney for Shaheen & Gordon, P.A. Has Been Tireless in Representation of Workers

Attorney Jared P. O’Connor, a Shareholder/Director with Shaheen & Gordon, was honored by the New Hampshire Association of Justice (NHAJ) as the 2019 Granite State Advocate Award winner.

The prestigious award is bestowed upon the New Hampshire attorney who “pursues and helps achieve substantial changes in the law of the state which improve our civil justice system, enhance the rights of citizens’ access to the courts, preserve the right of trial by jury or enhance the right of everyone to obtain full, fair and timely remedies for civil wrongs.”

NHAJ President William D. Woodbury said O’Connor’s “advocacy on behalf of New Hampshire’s Workers’ Compensation Claimants has been nothing less than inspiring.” He added that O’Connor’s work sets a powerful example for all future advocates of workers’ rights.

“This is a fitting honor for a lawyer who is tireless in his representation of workers,” says Michael Noonan, President and Managing Director of Shaheen & Gordon. “Jared has dedicated himself to fighting on behalf of injured workers.”

O’Connor is listed among Super Lawyers®, a national rating service, as a top-rated workers’ compensation attorney and was named a ‘Rising Star’ by the organization in 2012 and 2013. He is also a past winner of the NHAJ’s Board of Governors Award.

He has litigated cases to the Supreme Court that have secured job reinstatement protection for part-time workers, established the compensability of successive cumulative trauma injuries, and clarified the legal standard for determining a recovering worker’s earning capacity. He routinely testifies on proposed workers compensation bills at the New Hampshire Legislature, has worked to enact legislation that modernizes workers compensation wage payments, and is a frequent lecturer at continuing legal education seminars.

“It’s my privilege to represent the workers of this state, and humbling to be in the company of the outstanding lawyers who have previously received this award,” O’Connor says.

O’Connor was most recently appointed to the Governor’s Commission studying the compensability of job-related PTSD in New Hampshire’s first responders.
