Four local nonprofits are the beneficiaries of nearly $250,000 thanks to the winner of the recent New Hampshire Powerball Lottery. A donation of $150,000 was made to Girls Inc. of New Hampshire, and chapters of End 68 Hours of Hunger in Derry, Dover, and Nashua will each receive $33,0000.

The announcement was made during a press conference today at the New Hampshire Lottery headquarters in Concord. The winner, who remains anonymous, claimed her prize of nearly $560 million through the Good Karma Family 2018 Nominee Trust facilitated through the law firm of Shaheen & Gordon, P.A., with firm co-founder William Shaheen serving as trustee. He attended the press conference with firm co-founder Steven Gordon. The winning Powerball ticket was sold at Reed’s Ferry Market in Merrimack for the January 6 drawing. This winner marks the 11th Powerball jackpot winner in New Hampshire history.

“On behalf of the Good Karma Family 2018 Nominee Trust, we are pleased to accept this Powerball prize,” said Shaheen. “We recognize the tremendous interest this prize has generated but hope you appreciate our client’s desire to maintain a sense of normalcy by keeping her name confidential. What little I can say, is that she and her family have had a longstanding commitment to their community and are thrilled to be able to enhance their impact through targeted philanthropy for generations to come.”

The woman, identified as Jane Doe, signed the ticket following the Jan. 6 drawing, but later learned she could remain anonymous through a trust. Shaheen and Gordon are seeking to keep the winner’s name anonymous and are awaiting a judge’s ruling on that request.
