Hit-and-Run Crash Seriously Injures Fairfield Pedestrian

A Fairfield man suffered serious injuries after he was hit by a car on July 20th. The accident occurred in the early morning on Norridgewock Road.

The injured pedestrian was identified as Colby Dyer, 30, of Fairfield. Dyer had left the Apple convenience store at 292 Norridgewock Road around midnight when a car traveling northbound hit him and fled the scene.

Though he was seriously injured, Dyer was able to walk back to his apartment. His aunt was at the apartment and called police to report the incident around 12:50 a.m.

During a phone call on July 21st, Capt. Paul St. Amand said, “We believe it was a car or a small truck or small SUV, and we got that from the tire measurements.” While the speed limit on the road is 50 miles per hour, authorities have yet to state how fast the car was traveling at the time of the crash.

One witness who saw Dyer lying in the road was interviewed by Fairfield police. It was determined that the witness was not the hit-and-run driver.

If you have more information about the driver of the vehicle, Fairfield police ask that you please contact them at 453-9393.

Hit-and-Run Accident Attorneys Serving Maine

We can only hope that local authorities are able to locate the individual responsible for Mr. Dyer’s injuries, and we wish him the best in his recovery. When someone is the victim of a hit-and-run like this, people often don’t realize that their own insurance policy may cover some of their damages.

In Maine, every motor vehicle insurance policy is required to have a minimum of $50,000 of uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage. This coverage is available to an individual insured under the policy when they are injured by the negligent actions of another individual, and that individual either doesn’t have insurance coverage or does not have enough insurance coverage. 24-A M.R.S.A. 2902 explicitly extends this coverage to victims of a hit-and-run.

If you, or someone you know, have been injured in a hit-and-run accident, it is important to consult with a qualified attorney who knows how to identify all the insurance policies that might provide compensation for the victim. Some of these policies are not obvious to someone who doesn’t know where to look, and an insurance company is unlikely to voluntarily come forward to notify someone of the potential for coverage.
