Legal Assistant

Shaheen & Gordon, P.A., Attorneys at Law, is seeking a full-time Legal Assistant with 1-3 years’ experience to work in the law firm’s busy Family Law and Personal Injury/Workers Compensation practice areas at their Manchester, NH office. Must have experience in NH and MA Personal Injury/Workers Compensation. To be successful in this role the candidate must demonstrate the ability to work as a member of a team, in addition to working independently.

Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Opening and closing of files
  • Receiving, scanning, and distributing incoming and outgoing mail correspondence
  • Managing new client files, including performing conflict checks and drafting engagement letter for attorney approval
  • Drafting general legal correspondence to clients, courts, and opposing counsel
  • Handle filing for both paper and electronic files
  • Schedule appointments/calendar court dates and deadlines
  • Organize discovery materials and case files for attorneys to use at court hearings and trial
  • Serve and file legal papers in various courts, with familiarity with electronic filing systems in both State and Federal Courts
  • Utilize communication skills via phone and email with potential new clients, existing clients, and opposing counsel
  • Format legal documentation

Requirements:

  • Management of personal injury files
  • Experience with contacting claims adjusters
  • Experience with requesting, reviewing, and organizing medical records
  • Prepare medical evidence for trial
  • Prepare exhibit and trial notebooks
  • Knowledge of Court Rules and all discovery deadlines
  • Must have excellent secretarial skills with the ability to multi-task under pressure and prioritize
  • Attention to detail and proofreading skills
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, Adobe, Centerbase, NetDocuments, scanning and maintaining electronic files is a plus
