Attorney Ron Abramson, a partner and chair of the Immigration Practice Group at Shaheen & Gordon, has been admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the District of Vermont.
This admission sets the stage for pursuing immigration processing delay and other mandamus litigation against U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ (USCIS) Vermont Service Center, one of six service centers in the United States, which are currently processing over 4 million immigration applications and petitions.
Attorney Abramson observed that “immigration backlogs are at historically unprecedented highs. Federal mandamus litigation is a last resort to get the government to do what it is legally charged to do more quickly and efficiently. By being able to file suit in Vermont, we are better able to serve our clients, whether from New England or around the world.” Abramson added, “The more immigration policy is politicized, the less chance that we’ll see meaningful reform and modernization of an outmoded and inefficient system. What’s often lost in the heated public discourse is that American citizens, schools, businesses, places of worship, and entire communities suffer as a result of a dysfunctional immigration system.”
