Attorney Jared O’Connor, Partner at Shaheen & Gordon, P.A. has been honored with the New Hampshire Association of Justice’s Granite State Advocate Award for 2026.
Established in 1996, this award is given to attorneys who, in the course of determinedly advocating for their clients, help achieve substantive changes in the law that improve New Hampshire’s civil justice system. Jared was nominated by fellow attorney Brittani Pelissier for his work in his recent New Hampshire Supreme Court case, Appeal of State of New Hampshire (Adjutant General), 2025. This is Jared’s second time winning this award.
In this case, Jared established that the widow of a firefighter had an independent right to fight for her own workers’ compensation benefits, even though her husband’s initial claim had been denied and the statute of limitations to challenge it had long expired. The case was a long-fought victory for Jared and his client, and the resulting change in the law will help assure financial security for those who lose their loved ones due to work-related injuries or occupational diseases. Through this award, NHAJ recognizes Jared’s excellent legal work and the significant impact this will have on families across the state going forward.
Jared was not the only lawyer connected to Shaheen & Gordon recognized that night. Retired attorney Larry Vogelman also received a lifetime achievement award for his dedication to justice and the New Hampshire Legal System.
From attorneys with incredible legacies to those shaping the future of law in New Hampshire, Shaheen & Gordon is proud to be a firm that supports its lawyers and allows them the opportunity to build the practice they want. These recognitions from the NHAJ demonstrate what makes Shaheen & Gordon different, and how that benefits clients across New England and beyond.
