Attorneys Arpy Saunders and Michael McLaughlin of The Shaheen & Gordon Group recently participated in a successful project for Franklin Pierce University. The University’s tax exemption for a waste water treatment plant was being challenged in the New Hampshire legislature.
The tax exemption allows private entities to receive a property tax exemption if they are required by federal law to implement sophisticated pollution control devices. The tax exemption makes it possible for private entities to have sufficient funds to do the best job they can to protect the environment and has been a part of New Hampshire law since 1972.
Through research and testimony presented to the New Hampshire Senate, the University prevailed and was allowed to keep the exemption. Keeping the exemption will allow the University to invest in regular maintenance and upgrades to the facility and help keep the environment in the Monadnock area pristine.
