Hit-and-Run Driver of Stolen Car Injures Infant

A hit-and-run driver traveling at speeds exceeding 100 mph collided with another vehicle on Interstate 93 in New Hampshire, causing injuries to a baby girl and her parents. The accident occurred on July 27, 2020, around 7.pm.

When State police first arrived at the accident scene, they determined that a 2020 BMW X3 had crashed into a 2017 Subaru Outback. The force of the collision caused the Subaru to go off the road and roll over multiple times.

According to witnesses who spoke with police, the BMW was traveling over 100 mph when the accident occurred. The driver inside the BMW immediately fled the scene on foot and headed into the woods near the highway.

Police identified the driver and passengers of the Subaru as Jonathan Quinn, 41, and Stephanie Schneider, 39, of Brookline, Massachusetts. Their infant daughter was also in the vehicle. All three were transported to Elliot Hospital in Manchester to be treated for life-threatening and minor injuries. The family's dog was also taken to a local veterinary hospital to treat its life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the BMW was found shortly after the crash by police and was identified as Patrick Giberson, 36, of Manchester. He has been charged with reckless conduct, conduct after an accident, vehicular assault, and reckless operation.

Police said their investigation also revealed that Giberson had stolen the BMW from his parents after being involved in a domestic disturbance in Manchester.

Our Car Accident Lawyers Fiercely Advocate for Our Clients

According to the NHSTA, speed is a contributing factor in nearly one-third of all motor vehicle fatalities. Per the police reports, this man was traveling more than thirty miles-an-hour over the posted speed limit on Interstate 93, putting the lives of everyone on that road in danger.

Thankfully, it sounds like this young family will recover from their physical injuries. But they will undoubetedly remember this terrifying crash for the rest of their lives. In a civil claim against the driver of the other vehicle, both the past and future emotional distress these young parents experience is a compensable component of their damages. Hiring an experienced attorney who knows how to investigate and frame those issues will be crucial if they want to pursue maximum compensation for this horrible ordeal.
